Press Release:
Eton Institute is the first to achieve ÖSD test centre status in the UAE and wider Gulf region
Dubai,5th February,2014 – Eton Institute, the UAE’s largest training and professional development centre, has achieved international status as the first ÖSD exam preparation and test centre in the Gulf Region, offering globally recognised certification for competence in the German language.
Against a background of globalization, virtual borders and expected mobility, there is an increasing demand for language courses and language competency testing. For the English language alone, Eton Institute offers courses for the TOEFL and IELTS tests, which college and universities use to gauge the language skills of prospective international students, and the TOEIC test, which employers in a variety of industries use to determine employees’ readiness to use English in global communication.
Romina Mahtani, Operations Director, Eton Institute, remarked, “More than 27 million people from all over the world have taken the TOEFL test to demonstrate their English-language. Over one million people take the IELTS test every year. Our customers wish to progress professionally and personally and it’s a simple fact that languages and standardized language tests open doors to education, employment and global opportunities.
German is the most widely spoken native language in Europe and approximately 55 million Europeans speak German as a foreign language. We have been offering ÖSD courses and exam dates very successfully at Eton Institute Vienna and we are delighted to bring this product to the UAE for the first time.”
ÖSD stands for “Österreichisches Sprachdiplom Deutsch”. The ÖSD is a state-approved examination and assessment system for German as a Foreign Language / German as a Second Language, and is accepted for university admission in Austria, Germany, Switzerland and South Tyrol (Italy) and as proof of language ability for citizenship applications for Austria, Germany and Switzerland.
German is the official language in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Luxembourg and Liechtenstein as well as in Italy’s South Tyrol. In addition, German plays a role as a recognized minority language in Denmark, France, Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia.
Germany, Switzerland and Austria are all famous for the quality of their universities, and Germany enrolls the third-highest number of international students in the world. Many of the world’s most desirable cities to live are German-speaking and the German-speaking countries’ economic significance is significant. According to the economic review from the German Information Center and magazine-deutschland.de, Germany boasts the world’s fourth-largest national economy, and the per capita GDPs of German-speaking Switzerland and Austria rank third and fourth in the EU.
