28 Jun Marvel at The Wonders Of Mhow, India
Mhow is the place I call home. My hometown reminds me of so many beautiful memories. I remember the joys of having a big family, grandma’s stories, scooter rides, homemade pickles, smell of fresh air, lush greeneries, beautiful gardens, and the tranquil, serene rural way of life.
Sakina A. shares with us memories of her hometown Mhow.
Mhow is located at a very convenient distance from the commercial city of Indore. One can easily reach the destination by road through bus or private or hired cars. It takes nearly one hour to reach the destination. MHOW stands for Military Headquarters Of War. This beautiful town was established in the year 1818 and is home to three leading training institutions of the Indian Army namely MCTE, College of Combat and Infantry School.
Must See:
Many of my memories of Mhow are of the picnics we had. Mhow is famous for its mild and pleasant weather, beautiful countryside and thus picnics were almost mandatory. A few of the popular spots near Mhow worth visiting are Patal Pani Waterfall, Berchha Lake, Mandleshwar, Nakheri Dam and Choral Dam.

Must Eat:
One of the things I look forward to when coming home is the experience of tasting Central Indian cuisine. These authentic dishes are very rich in local flavors. Here are some of my top picks:
Poha – is a Maharashtrian word for flattened or beaten rice. My mom makes poha often for breakfast, it is usually made with onions and potatoes.
Kachori – is a spicy, round, flattened ball snack made of fine flour filled with a stuffing of baked yellow moong dal – crushed and washed horse beans.

Samosa – is a fried or baked pastry with savoury filling such as spiced potatoes, onions, peas, lentils, ground lamb, beef or chicken.
Must Do:
When in Mhow, one shouldn’t miss visiting the Bhanwarilal Mithaiwala which means the sweetmeat vendor. In this shop, you can see all kinds of sweet and savoury dishes that are signature treats of Central India.

Something you must also do is watch a film in the open air theatre at Infantry/ MCTE Movie Hall. The experience of watching a movie under the stars is very different from our normal visits to the cinema.
Getting around town can be best done through scooter rides, almost everyone owns a scooter in India, it is the most convenient mode of transportation anywhere. Try renting a scooter, tour around the town and see, smell and taste the local culture of Mhow.
