Beat the blues! @ Blue Lagoon Safari

If you want to indulge in a bit of snorkeling, then the crystal clear waters of the Blue Lagoon Island wouldn’t disappoint! A myriad of colors in the form of exotic fish and underwater life awaits you. Post snorkeling, don’t miss out on the freshly grilled seafood buffet. About 15 minutes by car away from Jambiani, this forest/national park is one of the few places in the world where you can encounter the red colobus monkeys, making it a must-visit! You can also spot 50 species of butterflies and over 40 species of birds!

The capital city of Zanzibar is definitely worth a visit. The city is swarming with locals who speak a wide variety of languages comprising Swahili, Arabic, and French. Unlike the beaches, tourists are advised to dress modestly & avoid engaging in any acts of public affection. One will get lost wandering in the city’s vibrant lanes, observing the carved traditional entrances and eating in the bustling Fordhani food market that offers a wide variety of local food. The Urujo (special Zanzibar mix) Zanzibar pizza is a popular favorite!

Slow Down and Feed the Tortoises! @ Prison Island

Located 30 minutes away from Stone Town via boat, Prison Island was built in 1893 and originally intended to house violent prisoners from the mainland and sick people affected with the virus. Today, the island is home to a tortoise sanctuary that houses over 40 full-grown tortoises, with some of them over 150 years old, and one mustn’t miss the unique opportunity to feed them. The island is also home to a colony of beautiful peacocks.
