Press Release:

Eton Institute Supports Arabic Proficiency for Employees across the UAE in Preparation for Expo 2020

Increasing proficiency in the Arabic language in the UAE is a key business and economic focus at a time when companies are being instructed to provide a better service for Arabic-speaking customers.

Dubai, 14th January 2015 â€“ In the Gulf region, business relationships are built on trust and compatibility. The Expo 2020 Dubai is the first in the MENA region and is predicted to attract an astounding 25 million visitors, including many Arabic speakers from the region, further increasing the demand for Arabic-speaking employees in Dubai and the UAE. Research shows that only 48% of employees in private companies across the Emirates can speak Arabic. Eton Institute, the UAE’s largest language and professional development training provider, proactively supports Arabic proficiency in the workplace most importantly in call centers and in the retail industry, where many enquiries are made in the primary language.

“Knowledge of Arabic is key to achieving customer satisfaction and repeat purchase, as employees are able to provide better quality service to the customer in the region’s first language,†commented Moaz Khan, Marketing Director at Eton Institute. “Learning Arabic is a way to demonstrate that the relationship with the customer is important to your employees rather than just another purchase or business deal, and these efforts will be greatly appreciated. Our free Arabic courses, Arabic Cultural awareness workshops and mobile learning language apps are all aimed at helping companies improve an awareness and love of the language of the UAE,†he added.

UAE Ministry of Economy officials stated that recent research shows that firms are still not fully meeting the requirement to offer their services in Arabic, and reiterated that if the deadline of January 2015 is not met, fines may be imposed. This initiative is especially targeted at call centers as all communication is based solely on language skills, without the support of non-verbal communication to facilitate understanding, such as body language.
